AGTSP. What I have heard is, according to 'vedic culture' when a person undergoes the cudalaranam samskara and upanayanam he must shave his head leaving a tuft of hair. One must have a shikha to perform any kind of yajna. Therefore Brahmanas and Vaishnavas keep a shikha. I also heard Gaudiya Sampradaya shikha is of specific size some thing like 1.5 inch dia, and Srila Prabhupada said, if it is more it is some other sampradaya. It is said one must always keep the shikha tied except during inauspicious circumstances like death in the family etc,. If one keeps shikha untied unnecessarily, then that person becomes spiritually weak. Mayavadis do not keep shikha, like Vaishnavas. I would also like to have more input on this, if some one could provide. Your humble servant, Bhadra Govinda Das.
