Banu Swami with my initial question: Can anyone tell me how important it is to break Ekadasi fast within the range of time given in the calendar? My understanding has been that if the fast is not broken within the proper time range, the fasting becomes useless or there is no benefit derived from the Ekadasi fast. Is this correct? What happens if someone fails to break fast precisely within the one minute period on October 24th? This break fast time will fall right at the beginning of our Deity greeting here at Gita-nagari. What should the devotees do? What should the Pujari do who will be offering arotik during that time? His Holiness answered as follows: > the for breaking ekadasi is after sunrise and before the dvadasi tithi > has ended. how strictly you want to enforce the rules is up to you, > though traditionally in India the rule was strict. see the story Ambarisa > and his obligation to break his fast before durvasa muni returned. > for the marjority of devotees they can simply take a piece of grain and > swallow it at sunrise. the pujari could break his puja at that point if it > is not a public event, but if it is aroti (why at that time?) then let him > be excused.
