Govinda d€s… brought Prabhup€da a plate of cut fruit, and Prabhup€da opened

a lunch bag containing lau and kachaur…s. About eight guests (hippies)

were present, and Prabhup€da distributed pras€dam to everyone. One of the

guests, never having tasted lau before, remarked, "This is the best peanut

butter I've ever eaten."

"This is the preparation," Prabhup€da explained, "that the mothers make for

KŠa and the friends of KŠa to take with them in their lunch bags. They

put this in their lunch bags when they go and play." One of the guests asked

Prabhup€da, "Who is KŠa?"

"KŠa," Prabhup€da replied, "is the Supreme Personality of Godhead, who is

playing with the cowherd boys."

Prabhup€da asked to spend the night in the Santa Fe storefront, but the

devotees told him that, as the heater was too loud, he would be more

comfortable staying in an apartment nearby. He complied.

When I described the painting of KŠa surrounded by His cowherd friends,

all eating lunch, which hangs to the right of Prabhup€da's pras€dam table,

he looked at it, closed his eyes in thought of this pastime and said, "The

highest perfection of life. I have concluded that whatever is done without

KŠa is simply a waste of time. Srama eva hi kevalam. What will they

think of this?"

beheld Their effulgent, golden forms, he stood still and exclaimed, "Just

see! R€dh€ and KŠa are dancing tonight!" And on another occasion,

Prabhup€da offered me a luglu which he had personally prepared and asked

that I please taste it and tell him how I liked it. Truthfully, I had never

experienced any taste with which it could he compared. "It is out of this

world," is all that I could say. And Prabhup€da replied, "Yes, it is not of

this world. KŠa takes such luglus with Him when He goes out to play in the

fields. Wherever He goes, mother Yaod€ fills His pocket with these luglus."

rr…la Prabhup€da's mood conveyed more than just something he had beard from

a book. He was speaking from realization, from an intimate relationship

which he enjoyed with KŠa. Moments like these convinced me of Prabhup€da's

extraordinary position. We were all so fortunate to be his disciples.

All the devotees were always eager to relish hearing the nectarean pastimes

of their spiritual master, and Prabhup€da was just as eager to share KŠa

with his disciples. It was only for this reason that he was now remaining

aloof, in semiseclusion. In reality, he was offering his association even

more liberally, only now it was coming in a different form. The books he was

writing, KŠa and The Nectar of Devotion, were full of the most relishable

descriptions of the Supreme Lord and His eternal associates. As Prabhup€da's

dictations were typed out each day, copies of the transcripts were read by

the devotees. KŠa's vnd€vana-l…l€ overflooded the temple as the devotees

took pleasure recounting over and over again the eternal pastimes of the

Lord. They appreciated their spiritual master more than ever and felt that

he was giving them the greatest gift of all.
