The Pur€Šas in the mode of goodness glorify Lord ViŠu, whereas the Pur€Šas in the mode of ignorance glorify Lord ®iva and others. Therefore the Pur€Šas that glorify Lord ViŠu present the actual truth. This is also confirmed by the following words of Bhagavad-g…t€ (14.17): "From the mode of goodness real knowledge develops."* tath€ ca m€tsye s€ttvikeu ca kalpeu m€h€tmyam adhikaˆ hareƒ r€jaseu ca m€h€tmyaˆ adhikaˆ brahmaŠo viduƒ tath€-so; ca-and; m€tsye-in the Matsya Purana; s€ttvikeu-in goodness; ca-also; kalpeu-in determination; m€h€tmyam-glory; adhikam-better; hareƒ-of Lord Hari; r€jaseu-in passionm; ca-and; m€h€tmyam-glorification; adhikam-better; brahmaŠaƒ-of Brahma; viduƒ-they know. In the Matsya Pur€Ša (53.67-68) it is also said: "The sages know that the glorification of Lord Hari, which is contained in the goodness Pur€Šas is better than the glorification of Brahm€, which is contained in the passion Pur€Šas. tadvad agne ca m€h€tmyaˆ t€maseu ivasya ca sa‰k…rŠeu sarasvaty€ƒ pitŠ€ˆ ca nigadyate. iti. tadvat-in the same way; agneƒ-of Agni; ca-and; m€h€tmyam-the glorification; t€maseu-in ignorance; ivasya-of ®iva; ca-also; sa‰k…rŠeu-expanded; sarasvaty€ƒ-of Sarasvati; pitŠ€m-of the Pitas; ca-also; nigadyate-said; iti-thus. "The sages also say that the glorification of Lord Hari is better than the glorification of ®iva and Agni, which is contained in the ignorance Pur€Šas, and the glorification of Lord Hari is also better than the glorification of Sarasvat… and the Pit€s, which is contained in a host of miscellaneous scriptures.
