Hare Krishna,

In the following lecture excerpt Srila Prabhupada says:

"Kunté appeared to be as woman. So woman generally, they are not interested in

spiritual matter. That is the fact. Therefore, if they are somehow or other

interested... That is also accepted. Kåñëa says, striyo vaiçyäs tathä çüdräs te

'pi yänti paräà gatim. Striyo vaiçyäs..., these three names, why He has taken

specifically? So women, they are not very much interested. Generally. Maybe a

special woman. But they are... Otherwise, they sometimes become devotee.

Devotee... Therefore Kåñëa says, te 'pi yänti paräà gatim. As soon as they

become devotees, they also promoted. But generally, they are not interested.

The vaiçyas, the mercantile men, they are interested after money. The woman is

interested after sense gratification."

>From this we understand that woman are less interested in spirituality than

men, but in the Teachings of Queen Kunti page 6 Prabhupada comments as follows:

"Women in general are unable to speculate like philosophers, but they are

blessed by the Lord because they believe at once in the superiority and

almightiness of the Lord, and thus they offer obeisances without reservation.

The Lord is so kind that He does not show special favor only to one who is a

great philosopher. He knows the sincerity of purpose. For this reason only,

women generally assemble in great number in any sort of religious function. In

every country and in every sect of religion it appears that the women are more

interested than the men. This simplicity of acceptance of the Lord's authority

is more effective than showy insincere religious fervor."

Please can someone explain what Srila Prabhupada means in both explanations?

ALSO, please do not allow this query of mine to become a controversial point of

discussion on the topic of men and women on the conference. I am merely asking

because I am preparing for a seminar on the First Canto, Chapter 8.
