It is said that one who offers obeisances to a sanyasi or takes remnants of a spiritual advanced person he gets the results of his spiritual activities. I never took this as some karma kanda. Maybe we can take also as exchange of love. I chanted once for a devotee having problems and it helped, but I considered the rounds as an prayer to Krishna to help this devotee. In Lord Caitanya's times devotees were even more merciful then the most merciful avatar himself. But I think we shouldnt consider even that our chanting will save someone.
