Maharaj, I'm really wondering as to why even > Krishna is wearing a thilak but Radharani is not. As wearing thilak is > equivalent to carry Krishna's Lotus Feet on our forehead, why should > Kishna wear it and why doesn't Radharani. This question was put before me > by my wife, and I promised to find out the answer for her. I don't know the answer, but the following may be offered as a possible answer. Traditionally all men, unless they were uncivilized outcaste, had to be diksitah or initiated in a bonafide sampradaya. Such men would wear tilaka of their sampradaya. Women wouldn't wear a tilaka because only men would be initiated. All women had to be married and their husbands were their gurus. Srimati Radharani is of course way beyond these social rules, but 5000 years ago that was the system.
