Actually, one should not circumambulate when the Deity is open. It is stated

in the Nectar of Devotion.

I always thought that this direction in NOD was meant for circumambulating the

actual Deity of Krishna, but in this context it seems to be referring to

circumambulating during kirtan itself! An interesting direction, considering

that this frequently happens in kirtans.
