Yes, Gautam…ya Tantra 7.10-11.

Concerning some of the other references you ask for, below I copy the

correspondence I had one this topic some time ago. For the Dutch Gita we

made an extended Index of Quoted Verses in which we included the *original*

sources of all the Sanskrit (Bengali) lines Srila Prabhupada quotes

throughout his Gita purports. For many we found the original sources, but

for some we didn't. Most of the lines you asked for we left unreferenced in

the Index (mentioning at the beginning of the index that if we were unable

to locate a verse or determine its reference we would leave the place for

the reference blank).

* Mangalarcana verses - Part II

Letter to Hrdayananda dasa Goswami

Q. 01-Aug-02 16:24 (17:24 +0200)

A. 02-Aug-02 20:03 (12:03 -0700)

We are compiling an Index of Verses Quoted for the Bhagavad-gita As It Is

(BGAII) and were hoping your good self could help us. We would be very

grateful if you could provide us the references for the following verses:

: "The same is stated in ®r…mad-Bh€gavatam:

ke€gra-ata-bh€gasya / at€ˆaƒ s€d€tmakaƒ // j…vaƒ s™kma-svar™po 'yaˆ

/sa‰khy€t…to hi cit-kaŠaƒ [Cc. Madya 19.140]

The reference Cc. Madya 19.140 is not sufficient, for in the purport to that

verse it is said: "This is quoted from the commentary on the portion of

®r…mad-Bh€gavatam. . . ." Dimock gives 10.87.30a as the reference, but that

also is not correct, for Ekanath Dasa (Ekkehard Lorenz) from Sweden could

not locate it there nor in any commentary on that verse ("I could not find

the 'ke€gra...' stanza quoted in the commentaries to 10.87.30").

The other verses which we would like to index appear at the beginning of the

BGAII:

he kŠa karuna-sindho, etc.

tapta-kañcana-gaurangi, etc.

sri-caitanya-mano-'bhistam, etc.

vañcha-kalpatarubhyas ca, etc.

sri KŠa caitanya prabhu nityananda, etc. (Panca-tattva maha-mantra)

We asked Ekanath Dasa (Ekkehard Lorenz) for their references also, but he

didn't have them.

A: Hridayananda dasa Goswami ("Hrid" hrid (AT) earthlink (DOT) net): Thank you for your

letter.

Unfortunately I am presently away from my books. Perhaps you could also send

these references to Gopi Paranadhana Prabhu, who is in the Vrindavana area.

He works for the BBT and probably has all of his reference books with him.

It is possible that he may be a better source of information on this matter.

You may also try to check the folio program and see if these verses come

out, there may be some references there in the Vedabase. If you find you

still need my help after contacting him, let me know and I will try to

assist you once I go back to the place where my books are located.

"We asked Ekanath Dasa (Ekkehard Lorenz) for their references also, but he

didn't have them."

A: Gopiparanadhana (das) ACBSP (NE BBT, Govardhan): Sorry, but I cannot

locate the original source of the "kesagra" verse. The other verses you

asked about are traditional Gaudiya Vaisnava mangalacarana slokas, and I

can't tell you anything about their original sources either. If I come up

with any of this information later I'll let you know.

* Mangalarcana verses - Part IV

Letter to Hrdayananda Dasa Goswami

Q: 14-Aug-02 10:59 (11:59 +0200)

A: 15-Aug-02 02:51 (18:51 -0700)

On the 2nd of August your good self wrote: "Perhaps you could also send

these references to Gopi Paranadhana Prabhu, who is in the Vrindavana area."

I wrote Gopiparanadhana prabhu but he replied that he does not have the

references.

And you also wrote: "You may also try to check the folio program and see if

these verses come out, there may be some references there in the Vedabase.

We searched the whole VedaBase but to no avail.

And: "If you find you still need my help after contacting him, let me know

and I will try to assist you once I go back to the place where my books are

located.

I would be very grateful if you would find the references. Just in case

these references are not to be found, how would you mention that in an Index

of Quoted Verses? I suppose "Unknown" wouldn't look very good. . .

A: Hrdayananda Dasa Goswami: I suggest that you consult with learned

Vaisnavas from the Gaudiya Matha.

"Just in case these references are not to be found, how would you mention

that in an Index of Quoted Verses? I suppose "Unknown" wouldn't look very

good..."

I think the index should be very honest. If, after consulting with learned

members of the Gaudiya Matha, you cannot find these references, then you

should say so openly, as scholars will appreciate our honesty.

* Index of Quoted Verses Revisited

Q. 13-Sep-02 12:15 (13:15 +0200)

A. 22-Sep-02 11:14 (12:14 +0200)

1. r…-caitanya-mano-'bh…˜aˆ

Prema-bhakti-candrik€ 2 (Ma‰gal€caraŠa)

(Ÿvara d€sa and Touchstone Media, 2000)

- Would this be good to use as a reference?

2. tapta-k€ñcana-gaur€‰gi

Sri Gaura-Govindarcana-Smarana-Paddhati 25 (of Dhy€nacandra Gosv€m…,

translated by Haridh€ma d€sa) From scans sent by Dravida pr.

Dravia Prabhu wrote:

"The only one I have something for is tapta-kancana, from a book called 'The

Poetry of Mahaprabhu,' compiled by Dasaratha Suta Prabhu. These are various

writings, in addition to Siksastaka, attributed in many quarters to Sri

Caitanya Mahaprabhu. A form of tapta-kancana is found in a poem called

Radha-rasa-manjari [R€dh€-rasa-mañjar… 23 (slightly different verse)]. The

relevant pages are scanned and attached."

- Shall we give the Sri Gaura-Govindarcana reference or shall we use

Dravia Prabhu's or leave it blank/unidentified?

3. v€ñch€-kalpatarubhya ca

Sri Gaura-Govindarcana-Smarana-Paddhati 27 (of Dhy€nacandra Gosv€m…,

translated by Haridh€ma d€sa)

- Shall we give this reference or should we leave it blank/unidentified

(our preference)?

4. akayyaˆ ha vai ***suktaˆ*** c€turmasya-y€jinaƒ bhavati (akayyaˆ ha vai

c€turmasya-y€jinaƒ ***suktaˆ*** bhavati in Bhagavad-g…t€ As It Is 2.42)

M€dhyandin… ®atapatha Br€hmaŠa 2.6.3.1 (is now: 'in G…t€-bh™aŠa 2.42')

- Would it be OK to just write ®atapatha Br€hmaŠa 2.6.3.1, or shall we keep

the G…t€-bh™aŠa-reference?

A: Ekanatha Dasa (Ekkehard Lorenz):

"1. Would this be good to use as a reference?"

Prema-bhakti-candrik€ is a song collection of Narottamad€sa µh€kura. He,

however, never wrote in Sanskrit. This is not his verse. As far as I know

the author of this verse is unknown. There is no need to cite just any old

book title in which a verse of unknown origin has been printed. Unless, of

course, one should be able to provide a reference to the earliest known

manuscript or printed work that contained these lines. Better refer to it as

'Traditional Gau…ya VaiŠava prayer, author unknown.'

"2. Shall we give the Sri Gaura-Govindarcana reference or shall we use

Dravia Prabhu's or leave it blank/unidentified?"

Unidentified.

"3. Shall we give this reference or should we leave it blank/unidentified

(our preference)?"

"Traditional Gau…ya VaiŠava prayer, author unknown." (It would of course

be nice to be able to give some date; something like 'early 20th century,'

but I just don't know when this came up.)

"4. Would it be OK to just write ®atapatha Br€hmaŠa 2.6.3.1, or shall we

keep the G…t€-bh™aŠa-reference?"

Just write ®atapatha Br€hmaŠa 2.6.3.1.
