Guest guest
The kshatriyas are specially trained for challenging and killing because religious violence is sometimes a necessary factor. Therefore, kshatriyas are never meant for accepting directly the order of sannyasa, or renunciation. ============ REF. Bg 2.31 It is recommended that a purified brahmana take to the renounced order of life (sannyasa), giving up further contact with his so-called wife. The brahmana is specifically mentioned here, since kshatriyas and vaishyas are not to take the renounced order of life. Even so, there are many stories in the Bhagavatam wherein great kings retire with their aristocratic wives to the forest to practice the austerities of vanaprastha and thus accelerate the process of purification. The brahmanas, however, may directly accept the renounced order of life. ============ REF. SB 11.17.38 Prabhupada: No, if... The purpose is to train a person in brahmacari, not to enter into the entanglement of this material life. That is Vedic system. Basic principle is that don_t be entangled with this material energy. So at the early age, up to twenty-five, he's trained up. If he can, he can continue as brahmacari. He directly can take sannyasa. But if he is unable, so let him go by step by step. Let him become a family, householder life, then retired life, then... But sannyasa at the end, that is compulsory, not that unless he is shot down by somebody, he's not going to give up family life. That is not Vedic system. ============ REF. Interview with Newsday Newspaper -- July 14, 1976, New York Therefore SÄta Gosvãm¨ says, yat kÍtaÔ kÍ¡+a-sampra£no yenãtmã supras¨dati. Actually, everyone is suffering. That is the law of material nature. Narottama dãsa +hãkura, he says, vi¡aya-vi¡ãnale, dibã-ni£i hiyã jvale, juÍãite nã koinu upãy. Vi¡aya. Those who are materialistic, that is called vi¡aya. Vi¡aya means eating, sleeping, sex intercourse, and defence. How I shall be protected, how shall I enjoy sex, how I shall eat more, I shall sleep more: this is called vi¡aya. Vi¡aya does not mean a very rich man, vi¡ay¨. A poor man can be vi¡ay¨, and a rich man can be renounced. Just like Rãmãnanda Rãya. He was governor, a gÍhastha, not even sannyãs¨. But Caitanya Mahãprabhu accepted him not as gÍhasthaîmore than a sannyãs¨. So vi¡aya. Vi¡ay¨ means, does not mean that if one is very rich, then heòs vi¡ay¨. Vi¡ay¨ means one is only interested with these four things: eating, sleeping, mating, and defending. The whole world is going on like that. The modern civilization, theyòre simply interested how to eat, how to sleep... In your country, in America, you know very well. Theyòre whole day working, how to construct a skyscraper building, how to own at least four cars. ============ REF. Srimad-Bhagavatam 1.2.5 -- Vrindavana, October 16, 1972 One who is under the material energy, they are entangled with these three gu+as: sattva-gu+a, rajo-gu+a, tamo-gu+a. The lowest is the tamo-gu+a, and via media is the rajo-gu+a, and the topmost, goodness, is sattva-gu+a. So even in sattva-gu+a, that is also entanglement. Rajo-gu+a, tamo-gu+a is certainly entanglement, but even rajo-gu+a, even one is situated in the sattva-gu+a... Sattva-gu+a means perfect brãhma+a. Satya¦ £amo damas titik¡ã ãrjavam, jãna¦ vijãnam ãstikya¦ brahma-karma svabhãva-jam. Even if you become a perfect brãhma+a, brãhma+a, with qualities, still, it is bondage. In bondage because, in this way, that even if you become a brãhma+a youòll think yourself, ¢Now I have got so much knowledge, Vedic knowledge. I speak truth, satya. I can control my senses. Satya¦ £amo damaÔ. I can control my mind. I have got knowledge. I can tolerate.÷ So all these qualities, one becomes bound up. But þr¨ Caitanya Mahãprabhu teaches, nãha¦ vipro na ca nara-patiÔ, that ¢Even... I am not even a brãhma+a. I am not a k¡atriya. I am not a vai£ya. I am not a £Ädra.÷ He says. This is called sarvopãdhi-vinirmuktam [Cc. Madhya 19.170]. Even if you become a brãhma+a, still, that is upãdhi, designation. ============ REF. Srimad-Bhagavatam 1.5.28 -- Vrndavana, August 9, 1974 So what is that false ahaÛkãra? The false ahaÛkãra is that ¢I am this body.÷ This is false ahaÛkãra. ¢I am this body.÷ ¢I am Indian.÷ ¢I am American.÷ ¢I am brãhma+a.÷ ¢I am k¡atriya.÷ ¢I am sannyãs¨.÷ ¢I am brahmacãr¨.÷ And so on, so on, so on, so on. All designation of this body. This is false ahaÛkãra. Therefore Caitanya Mahãprabhu has taught us how to become free from the false ahaÛkãra. He said that nãha¦ vipro na yatir vã: ¢I am not a brãhma+a. I am not a sannyãs¨. I am not a gÍhastha. I am not a vãnaprastha. I am not this. I am not that.÷ All material designations He refused, Caitanya Mahãprabhu. ¢I am not this, I am not this, I am not this.÷ Even if I am very much proud of becoming a brãhma+a or I become very much proud of becoming a sannyãs¨... That is the highest stage of human status, to become a brãhma+a or sannyãs¨. Sannyãs¨ is supposed to be the guru of everyone. There are four var+as and four ã£ramas. Brãh... [break] ...and k¡atriya. And in the spiritual order, the sannyãs¨ is guru of all, even of the brãhma+a. But Caitanya Mahãprabhu said that ¢I am neither brãhma+a nor sannyãs¨.÷ He refused. Nãha¦ vipro na ca nara-patir na yatir vã. Yati means sannyãs¨. So He refused. So this is false. Even if you become very much proud that you are a very learned brãhma+a or very advanced sannyãs¨, that is not your freedom. You are not yet liberated. You are still in conditional life. Then? When you become liberated? That is stated by Caitanya Mahãprabhu, gop¨-bhartuÔ pada-kamalayor dãsa-dãsãnudãsaÔ. This is liberation. Gop¨-bhartuÔ, the maintainer of the gop¨s, Gop¨jana-vallabha. KÍ¡+aòs business is how to please the gop¨s, the inhabitants of VÍndãvana. Ya£odã-nandana vraja-jana-rajana. As the vÍndãvana-vãs¨s, they have no other business than to love KÍ¡+a, similarly, KÍ¡+a has no other business than to please the gop¨s and the inhabitants of VÍndãvana. Gop¨jana-vallabha. So how...? Why KÍ¡+a is so much attached to vÍndãvana-vãs¨s? As soon as there was some difficultyîwe read it from Bhãgavatamîas soon as there is some fire... The vÍndãvana-vãs¨s, they do not know anyone but KÍ¡+a, and KÍ¡+a devours the fire. As soon as there is torrents of rain, VÍndãvana was going to be overflooded, KÍ¡+a immediately came to their rescue and lifted the Govardhana Hill: ¢Come under Me.÷ That is Gop¨-jana-vallabha. They do not know anything. They do not know even that KÍ¡+a is the Supreme Personality of Godhead. But they do not like to love anybody than KÍ¡+a. This is their only qualification. They did not love KÍ¡+a understanding that KÍ¡+a is the Supreme Personality of Godhead, para¦ brahma para¦ dhãma [bg. 10.12]. They did not know this. But they did not like to love even Vi¡+u than KÍ¡+a. That is their qualification. Gop¨-jana-vallabha. So when we come to that stage, as Caitanya Mahãprabhuòs teaching, the gop¨-bhartuÔ pada-kamalayoÔ. Heòs also bringing the reference of the gop¨s because KÍ¡+a is completely under gop¨s. Heòs so much indebted to the gop¨s that He said that ¢I cannot repay your debts. It is not possible.÷ KÍ¡+a, the all-powerful, all-opulences, but He had no means to repay the debts of the gop¨s. This is the position of the gop¨s. Caitanya Mahãprabhu recommends, ramyã kãcid upãsanã vraja-vadhÄ-varge+a yã kalpitã. There is no other better shape of worshiping KÍ¡+a than it was planned by the gop¨s. Ramyã kãcid upãsanã vraja-vadhÄ-varge+a yã kalpitã. This is the highest. In the same say, He says, gop¨-bhartuÔ pada-kamalayor dãsa... Gop¨-jana-vallabha. Gop¨-jana-vallabha is KÍ¡+a; pada-kamalayoÔ, one who has taken shelter. Donòt try to become gop¨s. No. Rather try to become the dust of the lotus feet of the gop¨s. Gop¨-bhartuÔ pada-kamalayor dãsa-dãsãnudãsaÔ. Just like Uddhava. Uddhava wanted to become one grass in VÍndãvana because the gop¨s will trample over it. This is the highest perfection. So liberation... Liberation means gop¨-bhartuÔ pada-kamalayor dãsa-dãsa-dãsãnudãsaÔ. The more you become servant of the servant, servant of Vai¡+ava, then your perfection is there. That is perfection. Our, the Vedic injunction is just try to understand yourself, aha¦ brahmãsmi. That is a fact. ============ REF.
