Guest guest
Dear Pancharatnaji et al, PAMHO AGTSP Regarding Mahavisnu in or on the ocean. Ksirodaka (Milk) ocean, Garbadaka Ocean, Karunadaka (causal) Ocean, sure, but salt water pacific/atlantic/indian ocean, I don't know. Even if this were true, it is probably not the main reason for not crossing. In those days when crossing one could not take proper bath or do ones proper daily rituals, conditions, water, food, etc on board boats were not that sattvic. Therefore people considered that a Hindu who crossed the ocean lost his caste (ie became degraded). Today only the Madhva Swamis, and Ramanuja Swamis (except for Chinna Jeer Swami) follow this rule. Also I agree that when a lot of people do or say something there may be some truth in it. However that is not the definitive pramana for Vaisnavas. Sastra pramana is ultimately our guide. I really don't think that this is a very useful discussion as obviously Gaudiya Vaisnavas (at least ISKCON and GM) don't seem to take any notice of these things. ys GKD
