Guest guest
> How do we understand the description of the Supreme Person appearing as the > son of the sage Ruci (and then subsequently claimed by Svayambhuva Manu as > his son according to putrika-dharma) and then marrying Dakshinaa, who is > Ruci's daughter. SB 4.1.6 BSST said that everyone is Satya Yuga was of a hamsa (paramhamsa) category. There was no varnasrama system. So maybe in Satya Yuga marriage between brother & sister was allowed. Also Dakshinaa was a partial manifestation of Lakshmidevi & Yajna of Lord Visnu. So they were eternal consorts even though they appeared as brother & sister. I don't have any sastric reference for the above statement but the following verse gives some hint: Cc Adi 7.164 asvamedham gavalambham sannyasam pala-paitrkam devarena sutotpattim kalau panca vivarjayet "`In this Age of Kali, five acts are forbidden: the offering of a horse in sacrifice, the offering of a cow in sacrifice, the acceptance of the order of sannyasa, the offering of oblations of flesh to the forefathers, and a man's begetting children in his brother's wife.' PURPORT This is a quotation from the Brahma-vaivarta Purana (Krsna-janma-khanda 185.180). So in Kaliyuga if begetting children in his brother's wife was not allowed, in other yugas it may have been allowed. Thus it is very diffcult to say what was allowed in Satya yuga and what was not. Or maybe God sometimes does something out of the way to bewilder the atheists and just to prove that He is God and that He can change His own rules if He likes and that his activities ahould not be imitated. Just like Krsna's rasa-lila. I hope this helps. Your servant, Nayana-ranjana das
