Guest guest
> Donating blood only improves our health, I have heard. So can we do that? My uncle is an medical doctor and he said that this is just an propaganda to get somebody to donate blood. Guess who would give blood if they would say it is bad? In fact he said it is not healthy. In ayurvedaI read this is used to reduce pitta, but what if you have other problems. YHS DKD

Guess who would give blood if they would say >it is bad? In fact he said it is not healthy. Could you please provide some reference, before making such a claim? None of my medical colleagues have heard of such data. Before telling people not to donate, I think we need to think long and hard about what we ourselves would do if we required a blood transfusion (during surgery, childbirth, after a car accident etc.). Would we refuse a transfusion? If not, it's hypocritical and stingy to say we shouldn't donate. Receiving blood, on the other hand, is not always safe, especially in India, where the blood is not consistently tested for HIV. So before you travel there (if you are not against receiving transfusions), it's a good idea to know your blood type as well as the blood type of other devotees traveling with you. That would allow you to donate to each other (often referred to as "directed donations"). Otherwise you have no idea about the condition of the blood you're receiving.
