Guest guest
Dandavats pandit ji(S). Jaya Prabhupada. I've got a question on a sloka. SB 4.30.19 I'm focussing on the words ghev €viat€ˆ . I'm trying to understand how Prabhupada has written it as (gheu—in family life; €viat€m—who have entered;) As per BG 18.55 tato m€ˆ tattvato jñ€tv€ viate tad-anantaram SYNONYMS bhakty€—by pure devotional service; m€m—Me; abhij€n€ti—one can know; y€v€n—as much as; yaƒ ca asmi—as I am; tattvataƒ—in truth; tataƒ—thereafter; m€m—Me; tattvataƒ—in truth; jñ€tv€—knowing; viate—he enters; tat-anantaram—thereafter. TRANSLATION One can understand Me as I am, as the Supreme Personality of Godhead, only by devotional service. And when one is in full consciousness of Me by such devotion, he can enter into the kingdom of God. ============ REF. Bg 18.55 visataam is entered , in that verse. I'm not conversant of the nuances of grammar to figure it out. Please explain. The Lord told the Pracetas to get married to the daughter of Kandu and Pramlocaa apsaraa. So it appears that the Pracetas had yet not entered household life when the Lord spoke this verse to them. Aside from what Prabhupada has given--could the translation have a few other readings? FOR hesitant devotees (in case the pracetas were feeling apprehensive of getting entangled in material energy by an upcoming marriage ties. the Lord was reassuring them) Such a verse might be good for devotees sitting "on the fence" i.e. shall I get married or not? (1) Like: Even if a person have *not yet entered* household life. If they are engaged in auspicious activities of devotional service by always passing every minute of the day conversing about My glories then (I opine) their future household life will not cause them bondage. (2) for renunciates: It is considered that those who have not entered household life, because of being engaged in auspicious happy devotional service passing every moment chanting My Glories need not fear being entangled while visiting householders. ghev €viat€ˆ c€pi puˆs€ˆ kuala-karmaŠ€m mad-v€rt€-y€ta-y€m€n€ˆ na bandh€ya gh€ mat€ƒ SYNONYMS gheu—in family life; €viat€m—who have entered; ca—also; api—even; puˆs€m—of persons; kuala-karmaŠ€m—engaged in auspicious activities; mat-v€rt€—in topics about Me; y€ta—is expended; y€m€n€m—whose every moment; na—not; bandh€ya—for bondage; gh€ƒ—household life; mat€ƒ—considered. TRANSLATION Those who are engaged in auspicious activities in devotional service certainly understand that the ultimate enjoyer or beneficiary of all activities is the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Thus when one acts, he offers the results to the Supreme Personality of Godhead and passes life always engaged in the topics of the Lord. Even though such a person may be participating in family life, he is not affected by the results of his actions. ============ REF.
