A friend of mine in Alachua recalls that Bhaktivinoda Thakura in one of his books describes devotional service as being cyclic. First one hears, he gets some faith, and performs some service, gets some taste, and then he hears some more in a deeper way and the cycle repeats expanding the devotee's service and realization.
