I wonder how long the > pilgrimage places in Sri Lanka date back to? We visited Sri Lanka a few years ago and had darsana of a small temple in the countryside which was said to be at the spot where Sitadevi had been held captive by Ravana. . . also, during the flight from Madras to Colombo, we passed over Ramesvaram and had a beautiful overhead view of the remnants of what was supposed to have been the bridge to Lanka. There was a long line of rocks in a line which, as it got closer to Sri Lanka, gradually decreased into small individual rocks separated by seawater. I remember being struck by how straight the line was, all the way across the Palk Straits. Not sure if this helps the present discussion though.
