Bilvamangala

Bilvamangala blinded his eyes. He plucked out his eyes. He left

Cintamani, his wife, children and wealth, everything, and he was coming to

Vrndavana. And he saw some very beautiful teenaged girls, and they were

pulling water from well. There was not thirst, but he became thirsty. Why?

Thirst of lust. He saw the girls and he was uncontrolled and he went, “Oh,

I’m so thirsty, can you give me some water?” They gave water, and he was

drinking. He was taking water from his mouth, but he was drinking their

beauty through eyes. And he became uncontrolled.

 

That girl went to her house. He followed her. Then when he went to the door,

the husband of that girl was there. “Who are you, Mahatamaji?”

Because long,long beard had come on his way. He thought that he must be any

saintly person. He asked, “Oh, what do you want? Do you want some bread,

chapati, or anything?” “No, no. I want to see, meet your wife, this girl.”

 

So he [the husband] was so pious person he thought,he [bilvamangala] will

beg from my wife something, so he called her. She came at once. Then he

folded hands to girl and told, “I want that you should give your hair pin.”

 

She thought that any thorn has entered in his feet. But there was surely

thorn, and it was not in the feet. Where it was? In heart.

 

Very long, long, uncontrolled. And he took [the hairpins], she

gave happily. That saint has no shoes, nothing, so any thorn may be gone

there. So happily she gave.

 

And while seeing, they were seeing, and he took two and [pierced his eyes],

that there will be no bamboo and no flute. So I should cut the bamboo from

root, that there should be no flute.

 

So there will be no eyes, no problem, no lust.
