It is definitely not considered auspicious. I think we gave some nice

examples, like the one that mother must be protected in her old age.

I just read the following:

If an unmarried girl observes this vrata, she will be able to get a very

good husband. If a woman who is avira -- who has no husband or son --

executes this ritualistic ceremony, she can be promoted to the spiritual

world.....

>>> Ref. VedaBase => SB 6.19.26, SB 6.19.27, SB 6.19.28, SB 6.19.26-28

Here different inauspicious situations are listed and one of them is a woman

that doesn't have a son.....but if she performs devotional service as

explained in this chapter of the Bhagavatam she'll be able to go back to

Godhead.

Prabhuji, please read my text again that is not what I said.

Historically, sanatana-dharma was followed regularly in India, and Indians

were called "Hindus" by the Muslims. The Muslims saw that the Indians lived

on the other side of the River Sind, and the Muslims pronounced Sind as

Hind. Therefore they called India "Hindustan" and the people who lived there

"Hindus." But the word Hindu has no reference in the Vedic literature, nor

does so-called Hindu dharma. Now that sanatana-dharma, or Vedic dharma, is

being distorted, not being obeyed, not being carried out properly, it has

come to be known as Hinduism. But that is a freak understanding; that is not

a real understanding. We have to study sanatana-dharma as it is described in

the Bhagavad-gita and other Vedic literatures; then we'll understand what

Vedic religion is.

>>> Ref. VedaBase => JSD 2.2: Beyond Religion

Here Srila Prabhupada says that Hindus used to follow sanatana-dharma. So it

shouldn't be surprising to find many elements of the sanatana dharma in

nowadays Hinduism.
