Guest guest
Dear devotees, I am doing some research on the Puranic accounts of imparting of heretical doctrines to the asuras in order to destroy them. These heretical doctrines are preached by Brhaspati or a manifestation of Visnu (Mayamoha, Arihan or Buddha). It has been brought to my attention that Stephen Knapp in one of his books tries to resolve the contradictions between the Buddha described in Bhagavata 1.3.24 and the Buddha of the Pali canon in the following way: (1) Gaya was the place of his second (i.e. spiritual) birth, and (2) Anjana was the Buddha's grandmother who cared for him after the death of Maya, the Buddha's real mother. [i have consulted a number of editions of the Bhagavata and they all read something different for this verse. There are three variations of the name of the father of the Buddha: Jina, Ajana, and Anjana.] I do not know from which of Stephen Knapp's books this comes from, nor do I have any of his books. If someone could provide me with the exact reference I would be very grateful. Thank you very much. Sincerely, Tadiyaseva (Text PAMHO:4616036) ------ ------- End of Forwarded Message ------
