Guest guest
If a saintly person is criticized because of the traces of almost-extirpated sin in his character, that is a grievous offence. If criticism is made against a sadhu for sins committed prior to his surrendering to Krsna, that is likewise another serious offence; such a faultfinder surely invites the wrath of Lord Krsna. (Harinama Cintamani ch.4 p.32) Haridasa Thakura is not saying here that there is something very heinously wrong if you make an offence toward a maha-bhagavata (pure devotee), or if you make an offence to someone who is not making mistakes. He is letting us know that there is serious disturbance in one's devotional life even when you are criticizing someone who has some past weakness, someone who has come out of a negative situation or someone who has had some accidental disturbance or fall. He says that this will weaken and can even destroy one's devotional creeper. Because we have a duty to be spiritual scientists, and we are supposed to be monitoring and looking for what is proper and try to be servants by trying to facilitate others. We work on ourselves first, and where there is something wrong we are to lovingly address it. But if we are trying to call someone out, criticizing or dealing with a deviation, and this person is a devotee; if we are not also involved in trying to make things better or trying to assist that person or do not really care about that individual; then even to speak bad about such person's deviation or to deal with it can be very dangerous to our own devotional life. That just helps us to be reminded, that every devotee is so rare and so important. Menu
