The simple logic is that Shrila Prabhupada, a pure devotee (who is above vaastu shastra) authorized or allowed the establishment of the temple and Deities in that way. In regards to whether we could do the same, we should try to follow Shrila Prabhupada's instructions rather than try to imitate him because we are not on that platform. His instruction in a Letter to: Kirtanananda, Sydney 18 February, 1973 is: "The Deities should be facing East." Dasanudaso'smi, Tridandi Bhikshu Bhaktiratna Sadhu.
