Old age devotees, well they fast also why should they not Srila Prabhupada set the example, and in Vrindavana so many old women and men fast on this day. That is no excuse. Diabetic?Well it seems they should be abel to fast for one day,if not as strictly as possible.Maybe seek help from a bonafide ayurvedic doctor for this problem on fasting on Ekadasi,it seems like it should be done. Satra has not given exceptions.Weak devotees??We have to be carefull not to fall into a trap and say I am weak and can't fast,it could be a mental excuse to diobey sastra. In case of serious desease common sense is required, but when one becomes healthy again the strict fast must be observed. And in most cases one can fast for one day if one has any love for Sri Krsna, why should there be excuses??? I thought Prabhupada advised against pregnant women fasting. If so, there is no need for additional advice. Ys, Madhusudani dasi

Well, is not so "easy" as you mean, next year she will be breast fiding the baby, and may be it will take few years, and then other baby... so probably a young lady devotee cann't observe the fast for some years.... > Old age devotees, well they fast also why should they not Srila Prabhupada > set the example, and in Vrindavana so many old women and men fast on this > day. That is no excuse. As you said Srila Prabhupada gave as the perfect example, but is better to fast and spend the most of the day feeling sick, and lying on bed? > Diabetic?Well it seems they should be abel to fast for one day,if not > as strictly as possible. Diabetics or hipoglucemic cann't fast at all, I'm naturist and if a diabetic or hipoglucemic person fast at all for more than 6 hs, his/her neurons die slowly... Maybe seek help from a bonafide ayurvedic doctor Ayurvedic doctors are not easy to find in my country... > for this problem on fasting on Ekadasi,it seems like it should be done. > Satra has not given exceptions.Weak devotees??We have to be carefull not > to fall into a trap and say I am weak and can't fast,it could be a mental > excuse to diobey sastra. Sincerously, the mind can find good excuses hidden itself in diseases, but it is also true some times and it is not easy to now when is the mind or when is the disease. In case of serious desease common sense is > required, but when one becomes healthy again the strict fast must be > observed. And in most cases one can fast for one day if one has any love for > Sri Krsna, why should there be excuses??? Personally, I'm not speaking about excuses, I'm speaking on real diseases. So again my question is: What happened with all the sins you talked about in these cases? ys, Sridhari devi dasi > Your servant > Payonidhi das

Your servant Payonidhi das Lord Krsna also blesses women with good children when they observe the worship and fast on Janmastami, that is mentioned in the Haribhakti Vilasa, but it is better to be carefull and not do to much fasting during pregnancies,so even if Srila Prabhupada did not mention this I see no contradictions. But he did warne pregnant women from eating spicy food. > >
Guest guest
>Actually I looked up the folio and there is no such mention that Prabhupada >told women not to fast. That's possible, but that's what he told my pregnant friends (who lived in LA I believe, I can check) in the early-mid 70s. >But I agree that women are better of eating some fruits >and driking liquids if they are pregnant. They can always >make fasts when they are not pregnant. I agree. Congratulations on your pregnancy (and your new baby?). Ys, Madhusudani dasi

Well the idea is to become detached from this body, but if someone becomes sick from fasting it is better to drink some milk, water etc but the principle is to try to fast to the best of ones ability without cheating.. > > > > > Diabetic?Well it seems they should be abel to fast for one day,if not > > > as strictly as possible. > > Diabetics or hipoglucemic cann't fast at all, I'm naturist and if a diabetic or > hipoglucemic person fast at all for more than 6 hs, his/her neurons die > slowly... > > In that case it is better to eat what is a must,or if the insulin with small meals will do..each case is different.. > > Ayurvedic doctors are not easy to find in my country... > My response :Check when you do go to India, and ayurvedic doctors exist now in most countries, maybe check in the biggest city of your country you may find one > Well it is better to not take any risks if one is sick. I believe that there is a lot of compensation due to the mercy of Lord Caitanya and Lord Nityananda so if one does his/her best then they will see the love, and oversee this persons inability to do a complete fast or fast at all in a worse case. But for the general healthy devotees there should be no excuse > Your servant > Payonidhi das
