Guest guest
Dear Jayadeva Prabhu, Please accept my humble obeisances. All Glories to Srila Prabhupada. >I had a quick question in regards to Radha-Ramana caran das Babaji. He is >of course, as you know, the one who began the famous chant of "Jaya Nitai >Gaura Radhe-Syama, Japa Hare Krsna Hare Rama". I had read in one book, the >"Saints of Bengal", that at the end of his life he gave some allusion to >the idea that he was Ananga-manjari(Balarama/Nityananda in the >madhurya-rasa or as some say, Jahnavi devi, the internal potency of Sri >Nityananda Prabhu). Obviously Radha-ramana carana dasa babaji had deviated off the track and since both BSST & BVT criticized him and thus he cannot be a bona-fide incarnation. He dressed his follower Sri Jayagopal Bhattacarya as Lalita Sakhi then what is the surprise that he will call himself Ananga Manjari. This is the concocted Sakhibheki doctrine (worshipping an ordinary jiva like an incarnation) which was greatly criticized by BSST. Also if he was Ananga Manjari then why will Kamala manjari (BVT) & Nayana Mani Manjari (BSST) criticize him and not associate with him. Actually many of these Bengali books are unauthorized which is proved frm the following statements by Prabhupada in Cc: Advaita Prabhu married in the beginning of the fifteenth century Sakabda (late fifteenth century A.D.). When Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu wanted to visit the village of Ramakeli while going from Jagannatha Puri to Vrndavana during the Sakabda years 1433 and 1434 (A.D. 1511 and 1512), Acyutananda was only five years old. The Caitanya-bhagavata, Antya-khanda, Fourth Chapter, describes Acyutananda at that time as panca-varsa vayasa madhura digambara, "only five years old and standing naked." Therefore it is to be concluded that Acyutananda was born sometime in the year 1428 (A.D. 1506). Before the birth of Acyutananda, Advaita Prabhu's wife, Sitadevi, came to see Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu at His birth. Thus it is not impossible that she had the other three sons by Advaita within the twenty-one years between 1407 and 1428 Sakabda (A.D. 1486 and 1507). ****In an unauthorized book of the name Sitadvaita-carita, published in BENGALI in the unauthorized newspaper Nityananda-dayini in 1792 Sakabda (A.D. 1870), it is mentioned that Acyutananda was a class friend of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu. According to Caitanya-bhagavata, this statement is not at all valid. When Caitanya Mahaprabhu accepted the renounced order of sannyasa in the year 1431 Sakabda (A.D. 1509), He came to the house of Advaita Prabhu at Santipura. At that time, as stated in the Caitanya-bhagavata, Antya-khanda, Chapter One, Acyutananda was only three years old. The Caitanya-bhagavata further states that the naked child, the son of Advaita Prabhu, immediately came and fell down at the lotus feet of Lord Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu. Also I was just checking another Bengali book: VAISNAVA DIGDARSANI SAHASRA VATSARER SANKSIPTA VAISNAVA ITIHASA "A Brief Chronological History of One Thousand Years of Vaishnavism" by Murarilala Adhikari English translation c Copyright 1986 by Graham M. Schweig and The Institute for Vaishnava Studies Washington, D.C. 1986 and I found that they have mentioned birth of Acyutananda in 1492 AD which means he becomes only 6 years younger than Lord Caitanya which is not approved by Prabhupada, who concludes that Acyutananda was born in 1506 AD. That means that if Acyutananda birth is wrongly given then there is chance of ambiguity in the dates and the description of the other Vaisnavas as well. Also another bengali book Sri Advaita Prakash also displays Lord Caitanya & Acyutananda to be friends nearly of the same age. This shows that all Bengali books cannot be accepted as bona-fide. Extract from BSST's biography: Also a dharmadhvaji has to be criticized if his devious actions are misleading others. Like when Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura had gone to Puri with his father BVT, both were giving discourses in Bhakti Kuti by the sea, near Haridasa Thakura's samadhi. BSST was lecturing on Cc and the famous Radharamanacarana Dasa Babaji used to come at that time to hear the discourses. RRCDB introduced two deviations in his preaching: (1) Hare Krishna mantra-mantra cannot be chanted audibly so he introduced Bhaja Nitai Gaura Radhe Syama Japa Hare Krishna Hare Rama. First of all this chanting had faults of siddhnata-virodha-an opposite conclusion and rasabhasa-conflicting rasas. Secondly Rupa Goswami confirms in the Prathama Caitanyashtaka, text five: hare krsnety ucchaih-"Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu chants the Hare Krishna mantra in a loud voice. (2) RRCDB introduced the Sakhibheki doctrine by dressing his follower Sri Jayagopal Bhattacarya as Lalita Sakhi. This was against Mahaprabhu's teaching as well, as an ordinary jiva was being worshipped as though he were an expansion of Srimati Radharani. Both BVT & BSST instructed the babaji to give up his fallacious practices, but he refused. BSST started preaching publicly and strongly against these misconceived teachings, proclaiming that the maha-mantra is for both japa & kirtana, and that kirtana is ultimately superior to japa. This created a big controversy in Puri with many taking the side of the babaji out of misplaced sentiment and others siding with BSST. However in Puri, BSST experienced such severe oppression and censure due to this preaching against the popular babaji, finally BVT instructed him to go and perform bhajana near the Yogapitha, the birthsite of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu. This was the beginning of BSST's great vrata of chanting 1 billion names in about 9 years which he succesfully executed for 4 years (1/2 billion names, 192 rounds a day). I hope this helps.
