Guest guest
Dear Prabhus ,Matajis and Maharajas PAMHO AGTSP Today is Vijaya Ekadasi,so I did a little research, there is also a Jaya Ekadasi,so wether this Jaya/Vijaya ekadasis referes to Jaya and Vijaya I could not find out.But if anyone has a Puranic encycolpidia then please do check it. The only book I found was Krsna Balarama ex Iskcon Swamis book about Ekadasis, actually the Haribhakti Vilasa may have more information about this Ekadasi,so if anyone with a translation of Banu Maharaha wants to check it out and share this information ,I am sure the vaisnavas will appriciate. I can only give a short summary as this text is to long. Lord Krsna tells Yudhisthira Maharaja that whoever observes a fast on Vijaya Ekadasi attains success both in this life and the next, all sins of one who fasts on this Ekadasi and hears its sublime glories are eradicated. Then the Lord tells Yudhisthira about Lord Brahmas instruction to Narada Muni about this Ekadasi. And He tells NArada that Lord Ramachandra met a sage called Bahadalbhya. And he istructs the Lord to observe the Vijaya Ekadasi (Vijaya means victory)to defeat Ravana. He then tells the Lord to worship a waterpot deity(that represents Lord Visnu). And also that the Lord should remain awake all night next to the waterpot deity. Also He was instructed to place a golden Murti of Narayana on barley grains. "When Ekadasi dawns take your morning bath and then decorate the waterpot with fine sandalwood paste and garlands. Then worship the pot with first class insence ,sandalwood and a ghee lamp and also devotedly place many kinds of cooked food, pomegranate, and coconut before the waterpot then remain awake over night. When Dvadasi dawns take the waterpot to the bank of a holy river or even to the shore of a small pond. After worshipping it properly ,offer it with all the aforementioned ingredients to a pure brahmana expert in Vedic knowledge. If You and Your military commanders observe Vijaya Ekadasi in this way You will surely be victorious in every way. And Lord Rama observed this Ekadasi in the perscribed manner. It is stated by observing this Ekadasi one will be victorious in this world and go to the Spiritual world after leaving this world. And Krsna concludes :"Oh Yudhistira anyone who reads or hears this story will attain the same merit as that earned by performing a horse sacrifice" Your servant Payonidhi das A good day to worship the deities with Love and devotion And one can also remember the holy place of Ramasvaram (if you have been there)
