As far as the topic is concerned, I believe this discussion with Payonidhi Das is now concluded. I guess I'm just totally unable to defeat these kinds of, um, expert arguments. But I figure that when someone is getting so hostile that he can't even write in complete sentences, it's probably better to to just leave him be. Just to get some facts straight, I was not the one who typed up the chapter from Jaiva Dharma. Nor do I have a Gaudiya Math edition of the Vedaanta-suutra (I wasn't aware that there was one). And I fail to see how Payonidhi Das can say that the translation I quoted from is incorrect, when by his own admission he does not have a "bona fide" translation of the same. I doubt if he knows Sanskrit. But in any case, he is welcome to believe that non-ISKCON translations of this work are unacceptable, and in this way hide from the evidence therein. It won't go away, however. Also, I never asserted that Hridayananda Swami would make anything up. I only asked to see what the original Sanskrit/Bengali was, given that in ISKCON people translate in such a way as to comment on a verse, and that sort of translation is itself based on their philosophical understanding at the time. I don't see why this is an unreasonable request. This will be my last reply to Payonidhi on this subject. He is welcome to continue twisting my words around, insulting me, and so on; I simply have no interest in that level of discourse. I apologize for having given him a chance to post these kinds of remarks on this forum. regards, -- K
