> In the Gaudiya Kanthahara "krsna-mantra" in this verse is translated as

> gayatri-mantra (obviously kama-gayatri and/or gopal mantra), which is said

> to grant liberation (svarupa-siddhi) and then retire.

Prabhupadanugas don't accept this interpretation because Prabhupada mentions

Hare Krishna mantra and not gayatri mantra in the translation of this verse.

Also it is mentioned clear ten verses later by Isvara Puri to Lord Caitanya

(Cc Adi 7.83) that the mantra is krsna-nama-maha-mantra:

krsna-nama-maha-mantrera ei ta' svabhava

yei jape, tara krsne upajaye bhava

"It is the nature of the Hare Krsna maha-mantra that anyone who chants it

immediately develops his loving ecstasy for Krsna."

There is one group which use the verse you have quoted to try to prove that

Prabhupada has committed a mistake by giving so much importance to hari-nama

diksha.

Your servant,

Nayana-ranjana Dasa
