Dear Narayana-ranjana Prabhu,

Please accept my humble obeisances.

There could be a simple answer to that. If you look at the first line,

"ciradrsta-prana-priya-sakham ivavapya sa tu mam", you will see the word

"iva", meaning "as if". In the word-by-word section it is there, but in the

verse translation it has been left out. What the verse really says is,

"Having attained me, AS IF I WERE a friend more dear than life He had not

seen for a long time, . . ." This means that Krsna treats Gopa Kumara AS IF

he had been away for a long time etc.. In other words this describes Krsna's

emotions, He was so incredibly friendly. Or else it describes Gopa Kumara's

emotions, he felt treated in that way. But the verse doesn't make any

definite statement about Gopa Kumara's history in the spiritual world.

Sanatana Gosvami does not say that Gopa Kumara had factually been there

before, but that Krsna treated him AS IF he had been absent for a long time.
