Guest guest
Dear Bimal Krsna Prabhu, Pamho. AgtSP. > Also can some one please provide references (besides Bg. 4.13 & SB > 7.11.35) from the scriptures in connection Brahmanas being recognised by > guna & karma and not by janma. There is a famous story from the Chandogya Upanisad (4.4). Here it is narrated how Satyakama Jabala, who desired to become a Vedic brahmacari, went to his mother to find out his ancestry, or lineage. However, his mother admits that she does not as she had many relationships as young. Satyakama then goes to a preceptor named Haridrumata Gautama and ask to become his student. The preceptor then asks for Satayakama's lineage and Satyakama then admits that he does not know. After hearing this the preceptor tells him that only a true brahmana would speak like that, not straying from the truth, and accepts him as a disciple. In other words, Haridrumata Gautama recognised Satyakama Jabala as a brahmana not by his lineage (or birth) but by him exhibiting the quality of truthfulness. I hope this helps.
