Day 18

---------------------------

Day 18

Varsana Parikrama

Today is a big day, the celebration of Govardhana puja and go puja will be

performed at Varsana, the place of Radharani.

With a transcendental Kirtan in the street of Varsana the party went to

visit Sankhari Khor. Sankhari means "narrow" and Khor means "street". Krsna

will stop the gopis and asks for taxes, as they came from Varsana carrying

big claypots. Krsna takes advantage because the gopis cannot move so fast.

Krsna would say: "I'm the king of this forest, you have to pay taxes." All

what the gopis have is milk, butter and yogurt. Krsna and the cowherd boys

have been herding the cows all day long in the scorching heat. They are

tired and thirsty.

Of course Radharani would not surrender quickly. There was a big fight. Soon

Krsna broke the pot on Radharani's head, and the cowherd boys feasted on the

yogurt. Radharani is not interested in any business or money. The actual

reason why she is doing this is that she knows that Shyamasundar will come

here. This is just an excuse to meet Him. We can also see the marks of those

broken pots in the stones.

On each side of Sankhari Khor there are four hills which represent the four

heads of Brahma. Having performed austerities, the Lord appeared before

Brahma and asked him: "what do you want"? Brahma's request was that he can

visualize all the Lord's pastimes. The Lord blessed him by saying: "Let your

heads become the ground of many confidential pastimes of Radha and Krsna.

Brahma becomes ecstatic and immediately transformed his four heads in four

hills. The devotees were sitting on the four heads of Brahma.

After this the party went to a beautiful Kund named Krsna Kund on the hill

of Varsana, and to Mayur Kuti. Mayur means peacock. A blind Saint once

received a transcendental vision and painted a painting representing Krsna

dancing with the peacocks.

Sometimes Radharani is upset and angry with Krsna. Then Krsna can not assume

the form of Shyamasundar. He has to make some tricks just to meet Her. He

knew that Radharani would come here to feed the peacocks. So He took a

peacock form.

Hundreds and thousands of peacocks were dancing. Radharani was attracted by

one of them who She fed grains and laddus cooked by Her. When all these

peacocks were dancing Radharani judged their abilities. After losing many

times, Krsna finally gave the best performance, then Krsna met Radharani in

the form of a peacock.

Finally we went to ladili lal mandir, the main temple of Varsana. The

original Radha Krsna deities of Varsana reside here. Ladili is a nickname of

Radharani, and lal is a nickname of Krsna.

When these pastimes of conjugal loving affairs of Radha-Krsna is heard from

the right source, it act as a cure for the disease in our heart. That

disease is lust. We have come here to be cured. By taking advantage of

Varsana we can replace our lust in Radha-Krsna prema.

Varsana Ki Jai.
