Garuda Purana 3.18.23: "Born of Drona, Asvatthama was Rudra himself. He was

born to reap the fruits of the seeds of his actions sown in former births

[22 - as Durvasa] and to illumine (by contrast) the virtues of his enemy."

 

Brahma-vaivarta Purana 6.181 (about persons in Krsna-lila): "Kali will

partially incarnate as Duryodhana. Varuna will partially incarnate as

Santanu. Siva will partially incarnate as Asvatthama. Agni will partially

incarnate as Dronacarya."

 

> I have been told that the "title" VYAS is given to persons that codify or

> split the vedas at the begining of kali-yug. There have been ± some 20 odd

Yes. Dvaipayana = "island-born one".

The logic of lila. Devotees play the roles of Krsna's enemies.

 

According to the SB 8.13.15-16 Asvatthama will be also among next Saptarsis.

 

> ASWATHAMA & KRISHNADWAIPANYA are both deathless persons are the other

> Vyases also deathless( eternal bodies)

 

Many are great sages or devas
