One should never question whether it is fit to eat or not. The prasädam of the Lord is as unchangeable as the Vedic mantras or Lord Viñëu Himself. Those who distinguish the Lord’s prasädam as eatable or not eatable will suffer from leprosy. They will lose their children and wives, O brähmaëa, and go to hell, never to return again.” cira-stham api saàçuñkaà nétaà vä düra-deçataù yathäyathopabhuktaà sat sarva-päpäpanodanam “Even if Lord Jagannätha’s prasädam has sat for a long time, has become completely dried up or has been carried far away, it will surely drive away all one’s sins if it is eaten in the proper spirit.” According to the Bhaviñya Puräëa, antya-varëair héna-varëaiù saìkara-prabhavair api spåñöaà jagat-pater annaà bhuktaà sarvägha-näçanam “Even if the food eaten by the Lord of the universe has been touched by outcastes, by those without any caste or by those born in mixed castes, still it has the power to destroy all sins.” In the words of the Tattva-yämala, nästi tatraiva räjendra spåñöäspåñöa-vivecanam yasya saàspåñöa-mätreëa yänty amedhyäù pavitratäm “O best of Kings, one should never be concerned about someone has touched Lord Jagannätha’s prasädam or not. If persons unfit to participate in Vedic sacrifices simply touch this prasädam, they will become completely sanctified.” And according to the Garuòa Puräëa, na käla-niyamo viprä vrate cändräyaëe yathä präpta-mätreëa bhuïjéta yadécchen mokñam ätmanaù “O brähmaëa, there are no restrictions about when to accept this prasädam as there are in the observance of such vows as Cändräyaëa.
