Pali texts in Vaisnava books

Dear devotees,

please accept my respectful obeisances unto Your lotus feet!

All glories to Srila Prabhupada and all other Vaisnavas!

All glories to Sri Sri Gaura-Nitai and Sri Sri Radha-Govinda!

Please, let me ask a question.

In the books like Lalita-madhava, Vidagdha-madhava, etc. (even in

Caitanya-caritamrta) we meet here and there verses or text passages written

in Pali (a Prakrta language). Not seldom, we can find a corresponding

Sanskrt version of Pali text in a commentary, footnotes or somewhere else

(especially if it's an Indian print).

At this point I would like to ask whether these Sanskrt renderings

were originally written by the authors or they are simply additions made by

editors of printed books?

I remarked that for example in two different editions of

Vidagdha-madhava I saw completely identical Sanskrt renderings of Pali

texts, so that I could not understand whether they were originally written

by Srila Rupa Gosvami Prabhupada or are simply commonly accepted Sanskrt

translations.

I would be very glad if someone could answer this question of our

humble self. Thank You in advance.

Please, accept my respectful obeisances unto Your lotus feet!

Your insignificant servant,

Sergei Schmalz.

Hare Krsna.
