I hope that is a misspelling of sweet. It is the highest producing cow under ideal conditions with high energy feeds, but production drops off dramatically after the first year of lactation, the oxen produced are minimally good for working, it does poorly on poor quality feeds, and eats a lot when dry, none of which are good traits for a homesteader type operation. The whole focus was just today a lot of milk today, with "depend on Krsna" as a plan for the future. This turned out to be nectar in the beginning, poison in the end. If you trace the way cows were treated and thought of at NV, and overlay to Bhaktipada's career, there is a high degree of correlation. He started seeing cows as possessions, as assets to exploit for their milk. After building up a large herd, when it finally dawned on him that cow in modern society is not a profitable venture, he pulled the plug on the laxsmi he was pouring into the program, sending it into free fall, not taking responsibility for the fact that the breeding had taken place at his behest. Shortly thereafter he was in prison Srimad-Bhagavatam Canto 8: Chapter Twenty-four, Text 5 :PURPORT Without protection of cows, brahminical culture cannot be maintained; and without brahminical culture, the aim of life cannot be fulfilled. Srimad-Bhagavatam Canto 1: Chapter Nineteen, Text ; :PURPORT Cow protection means feeding the brahminical culture, which leads towards God consciousness, and thus perfection of human civilization is achieved. n civilization is achieved. Currently , the cow conference is working on a set of standards to be submitted to the GBC as guidelines for ISKCON projects with cows. I firmly believe that cow protection is the spiritual basis for VAD. If we can have a society where cow protection is done thoughtfully with a view for the future, VAD will follow naturally. Those who work with cows should do so thoughtfully, and those who don't work directly with them can help by creating and funding Trusts for funding cow protection, or by preaching encourage others to fund these Trusts. SB 5.1.14 My dear boy, all of us are bound by the Vedic injunctions to the divisions of varnasrama according to our qualities and work. These divisions are difficult to avoid because they are scientifically arranged. We must therefore carry out our duties of varnasrama-dharma, like bulls obliged to move according to the direction of a driver pulling on ropes knotted to their noses.
