Does this catagorize him as one who encourages the abuse of women & one who puts them down? Looks like that, eh? dasanudas, Basu Ghosh Das P.S. Don't lose your sense of humor Prabhu. Guest guest
> Srila Prabhupada is clearly saying in this verse that equal rights can not > be attained by material adjustment. Since the reference is clearly to > caste differences, and not sex, it has little application to the > situation we are discussing. Off topic, I guess, but when I read this I got intrigued about the comparision of caste differences vs. sex differences. Comparing the two, they appear very similar. You cannot change your varna, nor your gender, both are very basic imprintings on the mind, with unknown origin. According to this imprinting the body develops accordingly (normally). Science have figured out that all fetuses are female, and that male fetuses develop, or even "mutate", differently from a very early time as a modification from the basic female form, by the influence of hormones. Someone might ague that the cromosomes determine the male or female form, that's what we learned in school. but actually there are persons walking around with the "wrong" cromosomes for their sex, so that cannot be the determining factor. There are even persons born with both sexual organs, and they are not even very rare. (Oh they always make a sex determination at birth, with a RULER, and very quickly surgically correct the organs to the decided sex. Mostly male, since they figure that is a "higher" designation) To compare with varnas, there are brahmanas born in sudra families, and look like sudras, i.e. with sudra genes, as well as the other way around. Even here, genes are not the determining factor. A brahmana born in a sudra family does not become a sudra, but he internally keeps his "brahminical" identity, as well as persons with surgually altered sex characteristic, even when made on newborn children, keep their original gender identify. So what makes a person a sudra or a brahmana, a man or a women? Any scientifically inclined person out there who has a clue (or even a speculation)?
