Bhakta Tirtha Swami mentioned in his report from Gita Nagari that they were considering going off grid for a week as a test. I have toyed with the idea of having a day like Ekadasi where once or twice a month temples would fast from any foodstuffs or energies produced by non devotees. To eat nothing for a day is austere (tho if anything healthy), but it would be a real barometer of the connection of where ever you are to the devotees on the farms. Rather than fast, I assume that devotees would be willing to pay the farm devotees a premium for items produced so they could eat those days. It would be a spiritually awakening austerity for participants and spur market for devotee produced goods. To set the stage for this, all ISKCON sannyasis, GBCs and temple presidents would be required to participate to stay in good standing. That would set the example for the other varnas to follow. A tongue driven subsidy to stimilate economic development on ISKCON farms that would be production based. C.) Development of value added devotee businesses based on devotee farm production. D.) A system of arrangements to be made between urban devotees and the farms wherein startegic stockpiles and emergency housing would be kept available to urbanites on a subscription basis for times of upheaval. E.) The study of necessary alterations in dietary patterns to accomodate the devotee lifestyle to low impact environment specific circumstances. F.) It impressed me to see how many subscibers are there. Unfortunately, most of them are maunam, maunam. But maybe it's not so unfortunate- just imagine what if ALL of them would write at least twice a week. It would be a flood, bigger that GHQ sequel. I would flee out. Let's enjoy the silence.
