Karmés are advertising that without eating meat, their vitamin value or vitality will be reduced; so to keep oneself fit to work hard, one must eat meat, and to digest meat, one must drink liquor, >>> Ref. VedaBase => SB 4.27.11 I haven't seen the studies directly, but my guess is that where they show a benefit for a glass of red wine a day, it isn't taken into consideration that the wine is offsetting the bad effects of the meat. The question is would the wine show the same good effects in a vegetarian diet. It is also a U curve of benefits, where more than a small amount of wine starts to have an offsetting negative effect in areas other than those where the red wine shows the positive benefit. I also just heard of a study that says the grape juice itself has an equal benefit as the wine. So think twice before rationalizing drinking wine for health benefits.
