The reason is that vedic astrology was not given as much emphasis as you seem to be giving it. This is because not everything happens the way we think it should happen--even to great religionists and saints. Here are some examples of matches that were made where there is either no mention of an astrological compatibility check, or there obviously was no consultation with an astrologer: (1) Sita Rama method: svayamvara (2) Draupadi and the Pandavas method: svayamvara (3) Yayati & Devayani method: providence (4) Sukanya & Cyavana Muni method: pacifying the Muni (5) Saubhari Rishi & the 50 daughters of Maharaj Mandata method: choice of the daughters (6) Arjuna & Subhadra method: kidnap (7) Krishna & Rukmini method: kidnap There are many more examples of marriages that came about without the aid of astrological consultation. The bottom line is that whatever happens, husbands have to do their duties, and wives have to do their duties--irregardless of whether astrology was employed in determining their compatibility. Astrology is only a means to assist families in determining whether or not a match will be compatible. From the above examples, we can understand that duty is more important to a successfull marriage. Duty was emphasized more than astrology, by virtue of the fact that astrology is not considered in all situations. Duty, however, is. ys KKdas
