That is the sad reality. VAD was only partially manifested while Srila

Prabhupada was on the planet. It needs to continue developing. Now, as we

have seen in so many cases, devotees who would have been good kings went into

swamihood because that is where they could get the influence they needed

naturally to have, but without the "wife of the king" to bring balance to the

person in that position, it has lead to unfortunate situations.

On the one hand you have the reactioneries trying to keep some artificial

situation to be like it was when Srila Prabhupada was here, and on the other,

unrealistic expectations of what VAD is, usually only partially applied.

For instance, we have heard so much about how women should act in ideal

society, but another aspect of Vedic culture is that it didn't use paper

money.

Prabhupäda: Whatever they do, when you receive money in the paper it has no

value. Bad money. It is bad money. It is not good money.

Rämeçvara: Actually most purchasing in America is done on credit now. Even a

step beyond paper money is credit, no money, buying on no money, loans.

Prabhupäda: That is in India also.

Rämeçvara: We don’t find these things in Vedic culture too much.

Prabhupäda: There was never paper money.

Hari-çauri: No. They used to…

Prabhupäda: That barter system. You have got rice; I have got something else.

So

I give you something; you give me something.

So in "Vedic" society, we shouldn't use paper money.
