Guest guest
I have limited experience with vastu sastra. The one second hand thing I heard from it is that it recommended building on north facing slopes, which probably makes sense in the tropics but is not the best in Northern temperate zone, where southern exposure for heat gain in winter is much better. We have as an alternative to TV watching made a casual study of feng shui, which is largely derived from the Vedas way way back, adn found that interesting and in some areas very practical. Look at it this way, as long as the vastu sastra doesn't come into obvious conflict with common sense for your particular area, what can it hurt? Incidentally, si there a good book about vastu that anyone can recommend. I am also curious to check it out. In the above book he compares the structures of three cultures, those of the Mexican Mayan Indians, the Incas and the those of the Hindu culture. It is an easy to read text in a simple language, yet all the basics ae explained. 2. Vastu Material - As Found in the Puranas- by Dr. H.S. Usha Rani She is a literary scholar and has quoted the details, even down to how big different persons homes should be, there location .... 3. Handbook of Vastu by B. Niranjan Babu Babu has written a text very similar to Usha Rani but it is written not from a literary view point, it is written for the modern man. It applies the ancient texts to modern construction. For exampler he discusses where would be the best location for a septic tank based on the Purana evidences. ys, Rohita dasa
