Guest guest
Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada. Since my mouse is on strike I cannot quote any text. To get a more clear picture it would be wise to read the whole verse and purport to the text in S.B. 1. 2. 13. Varnasrama seems to me unavoidable, since we can not eradicate it, it is the way all societies work. But if it is not transformed into varnasrama-dharma it becomes as useless as anything else which is not offered or used for the Lords pleasure. To be engaged in Deite-worship is not simply to wave a lamp now and then, according to what I have understood, it includes all activities that are nessecary also for a human being. How will you offer flowers and nice food, without land or make sacrifices/elevation without the cow? How will you dress the Lord without cloth and people who knows how to sew? Where does the juvelery, vases, and other paraphanelia comes from? Who builds the temple and so on. Therefor to create a society where the different activities are going on smoothly is part of Srila Prabhupada´s mission. The way of gentle vaisnava-behaviour is the protection envisioned in what I see as Varnasramadharma, but a protector also have to be strong in order to protect. In our modern society we see unprotected women who are beaten up by husbands and forced to sell their own bodies and still the police does not protect them, we see gangs of criminals ruling in the cities and old people hide alone behind bolted doors and are afraid of even walking on the street. A violent person can beat up anyone on the street or break into someones home and even if he is arrested, he will be free to do the same the next day. People live in fear. Small children are harrassed from the first day on when they start school by those who are stronger and more violent, and the teachers can do nothing and the parents are too busy making money to survive. Demoniac Varnasrama or Varnasrama at all? Maybe it is only varnas?. The rulers dont protect the citizens and they are not directed by brahmanas with saintly qualities. Ultimately it is very very difficult to be elevated to such a status where you can worship and meditate on The Supreme Lord. I see this every day. To simply chant Hare Krishna and be happy is quite difficult, when you have to live in such a society. Therefore in my limited understanding we must work on the material and the spiritual platform simultaniously untill we have fully realized that we are a spirit soul with no material needs. In that way our material activities will slowly become purified. I see no other way for us. How can we jump directly? I cannot. I feel pain for my children, fear, I am attached to my husband, becomes weak without eating, weired if I dont sleep. But I am also attached to my service to Krishna, my spiritual master, The holy name and the scriptures, without Them my life would be empty and useless. So how can I progress without considering my mental state and my material situation? Most of us need Varnasrama-dharma to become Krishna Consciouss. Hope I did not offend anyone by my insignificant wiev, but I think that it is most essential that we start communicating about these subjects, everywhere. Many people loose hope because they cannot find room in Srila Prabhupada´s movement. We have to build more rooms instead of piling everyone up in one room. I belive Srila Prabhupada came to save us all. Your servant Gunamani d.d.
