Guest guest
Earlier we mentioned the Barefoot Doctor -- the Chinese health care manual. Pancaratna prabhu said that a better book was *Where There Is No Doctor* [*Donde No Hay Doctor* in Spanish] by David Werner. My husband bought a used copy of the *Barefood Doctor* for me. It is interesting, but looks a little difficult to use. I just borrowed a copy of *Where There Is No Doctor* and it looks extremely easy to use -- with many clear drawings to help assist in a village health situation. Both books look valuable, but I think *Where There Is No Doctor* would be best if you had to choose. your servant, Hare Krsna dasi Here's the order information from Amazon.com: Donde No Hay Doctor (Spanish Edition) by David Werner Our Price: $17.00 Paperback Spanish edition (June 1980) Hesperian Foundation; ISBN: 0942364015 Availability: This title usually ships within 4-6 weeks. We just returned from a Hurricane Mitch Medical Relief Team in Honduras. This book was invaluable to the entire team. Comprehensive enough to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of ailments not often encountered in the US, and basic enough to share the info with the patients to aid with education. A must for anyone practicing medicine in Spanish speaking developing countries. We live near the Mexico border and I've ordered one to help me out here! PENNING-DK (AT) worldnet (DOT) att.net from Near Chicago, Illinois , February 7, 1998 Useful & practical I came across this book in Mexico in 1986. The book is clearly written and comprhensive. It should be a valuable resource for persons in rural Latin American (spanish speaking) populations where there is no health professional. We have a 13 year old spanish speaking foster daughter through Healing the Children. She has limited reading skills (classified EMH) and is facinated with the learning to be found in Donde No Hay Doctor. The simple but comprehensive drawings spur her on to struggle (because of her limited ability) through the reading (well written). I wanted a copy to send back with her to her rural village in the Dominican Republic. ************************* Here's another title also by David Werner Helping Health Workers Learn : A Book of Methods, Aids, and Ideas for Instructors at the Village Level by David Werner, Bill Bower Our Price: $20.00 Paperback (December 1982) Hesperian Foundation; ISBN: 0942364104
