Actually, I have been hunting for Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakura's prayer or

statement on this topic. There is one specific piece I have in mind where he

says something like, "When I go into the house of worship of another, help me

to

remember that it is You whom they are worshipping, even though the methods may

be different from my own."

Can anyone provide that quote for us?

It seems as devotees we are meant to propagate bhakti-yoga, which is after all

a universal process. Sometimes I think we get side tracked in our propaganda

confusing our particular institutional affiliation as being the only access to

bhakti.

Very good point. That is the handicap of us amateurs. There is a subtle danger

that identifying with a certain institution becomes simply another way of

reinforcing bodily identity. It can be healthy and even proper to appreciate

our

particular institution as far as it helps us advance in spiritual

consciousness,

but generally when we are looking to prove how other religions are inferior,

the

hidden motivation is so that we can prove that we are superior to others. It

really does not have anything to do with helping others advance in spiritual

life. So that is a pitfal that we amateurs have to beware of. And it is a

pitfall which is all the more serious when it is encouraged by a country's

political leader.

On the other hand, even in ISKCON, we can find advanced brahmanas such as your

own

guru maharaja, Satsvarupa Goswami, who can open our eyes to examples of

bhakti-yoga being practiced in other traditions. I'm thinking particularly of

his

talks/writings about St. Theresa of Liseaux [not to be confused with Mother

Theresa of Calcutta] and St. Francis of Assissi. Of course, in expressing this

kind of appreciation, he is simply following Srila Prabhupada's example of

expressing appreciation for the preaching potency of Jesus Christ and Mohammed.
