I admire your post, and you are right, the disciple is duty bound to follow the instructions of his guru. I also feel like you, and have at times lived in places with no electricity, in the Jungle, using whatever was at hand. We should aspire for this. It is not always so easy, especialy if you dont own your own land. But the vast majority of devotees would think you were mad if you suggested we do this. What to do? You are right, in order to build a biogas digestor, no matter how simply, you are going to need either some steel, or cement or even worse fibreglass, there is no getting away from it. Actualy Srila Prabhupada was RADICAL. Just see the post where he explains why electric light as opposed to oil lamp forces us to loose the goal of life. What amazes me is that some devotees think I am radical, and unrealisitic when I suggest we do this. But these are Prabhupadas instructions, and we SHOULD follow them. We think that because we are not responsible for the electricity, then we can use it. Of course Prabhupada said that there is no harm in using these things to spread Krsna Consciousness. But then he had to re-establish the vaisnava siddhanta from almost scratch, as his godbrothers, were fighting amongst themselves. There was an emergency. But now there are millions of books out there. Surely now that things are established it is time to READ those books, and there we will find Srila Prabhupadas un-followed orders. Does it not behoove EVERY ONE of his disciples and followers to re-read his books and implement ALL the things he wanted us to do. What is a disciple if he WILL NOT do this? Actualy I was going to write a text, saying that I thought you were being a bit extreme. But how can one say that the orders of the Guru are extreme? That implies faithlesness. You are right, and I would suggest we can judge the seriousness of Srila Prabhupadas disciples, and followers by their willingness to follow his orders, and make that society that he envisioned. Otherwise we are simply show bottle devotees. Thank you mataji, for jolting me out of my complacency. YS Samba Das > This seems to be very environmentally friendly- all you require is cow > dung? Of course, all the same points can be made about book distribution with the conclusion that unless we make the paper ourselves and deliver the books with oxen, we are falling short of the goal.
