Yes of course, as long as one has a bonafide guru, he does not have to be in his physical presence all the time. In fact he can have very little association physicaly, if he takes his instructions to heart and carries them through. Prabhupada had very little association with his guru, but he perfectly followed his instruction. Once the relationship is established, and the order given, one never really leaves his guru.
