Castor tree gurus

Don't look up "castor tree gurus." I don't think it's all in one phrase like

that. And I'm not sure whether Prabhupada said "guru" or "spiritual master."

I'm pretty sure the quote is in there, because I remember coming across it

several times while we were researching for Harakanta prabhu's article on

Prabhupada's instructions to use castor oil for lighting.

 

Could you try again for us? (My problem is that I answer most e-mail from

work, but the VedaBase is at home.) Thanks.

I only searched on "castor" alone. checked all 33 hits. Didn't seem

to find anything like that. Following is sort of like it.

don't know anything about it.

Prabhupada: You can do. Hiranda-pitha drumayate. When there is no tree,

the small castor seed oil tree... It is not much. It becomes a very big

tree. Hiranda-pitha drumayate. The castor seed plants, they are taken as

big tree. [break] Actually, theology is Bhagavad-gita. [break]

Jayatirtha: Oh, that's nice. Very good. [break]

Prabhupada: Suitable?

Brahmananda: Yes. [break]

Prabhupada: (walking) ...means science of God. So what is that science

of God? Who knows it?

Jayadvaita: You do.

Prabhupada: Yes, I know. (laughter)

Bahulasva: Jaya! [break]

Prabhupada: ...of God means first of all we must know who is God. This

is the first. Then, what is this material world and what is my

relationship with this material world and God. This is science of God.

The idea is that castor bean is a small tree but if there is no other,

it is taken as a large one. So better a castor bean guru than no guru,

but he never directly makes that correlation , at least not in

VedaBase.

Hmmmm... I'm not sure this is the quote I was thinking of. I thought that

Satsvarupa Maharaja was in the conversation. I'll take a look when I get

home.
