As long as the headings were clearly indicating that the topic was a practical one, anyone only interested in theorizing about guru or whatever could simply delete the message without reading it and anyone who was interested could read it. I have heard that if you take a bunch of grapes in excellent condition, put them in a clay pot and then put another clay pot over the top and seal the joint with mud, that the grapes will stay in good condition in a root cellar for months. Not a real practical thing for baseline survival, but assumig you had that covered, it would be a nice little touch to bring out some devotee grown grapes in mid winter to offer your Deities. Of couse, for jaded consumers of chemically grown and shipped in grapes, it wouldn't be worth the trouble, I guess. Just chant some mantras and presto! All kinds of love just automatically will permeate the bhoga.

Guest guest
Okay, you nice people say that this conference is okay for gardeners and that´s nice I have no problem with that really, but under the heading of varnasram one could put EVERYTHING. All the conferences on COM could fit in here. Why is there a cowconference, a womansconference, a childrenconference, a pujariconference, a Prabhupadadiscipleconference, a granddiscipleconference etc.? Different focus of interest. I guess why I think it would be good to discuss gardening here, because people who wonder in just to see what all the fuss is ( I am noting that VAD is the blabbiest conference on COM) might be drawn into a discussion of gardening whereas they might never join a gardening conference. Sometimes the eternal relationship of the guru and the eternal talking about it that seems to be the fellow traveler, can be a little too ethereal for someone looking for practical VAD, and a little side discussion of gardening et al might be something that could hold their interest. Probably, the COW conference would be a more logical place to talk about gardening, but the draw to outsiders is much less. As for straight up gardening katha, there are several forums and e mail discussion groups out there that specialize in gardening that aren't on COM that would probably be better is gardening alone was the interest. You´re right prabhu, I even think there are too many conferences. > As for straight up gardening katha, there are several forums and e mail > discussion groups out there that specialize in gardening that aren't on > COM that would probably be better is gardening alone was the interest. We don´t do the Internet. A possible gardening conf. should of course be for promoting selfsuffiency amongst the devotees and for exchanging experiences and ideas. I have this idea that varnasrama and cowprotection is very little understood and appreciated in ISKCON because so few actually knows how to grow anything, they are so parted from the land. I know of many devotees who cannot imagine themselves living out of the city. They just don´t have that connection anymore. Here in Denmark there 95% of the population used to live of the land, working and living in the countryside. Nowadays it´s only 5%!! We should train our people how to grow potatoes! And that will spark an interest in many, I`m sure. I know for myself; I´m a cityboy, but once I got my hands in the soil years back something woke up.
