Guest guest
< Regarding varnasrama, < I've tried almost half my life to fit in; for a while as a brahmacari, < many years as a grhasta, a couple as a vanaprastha, and now as a sannyasi. < So as far as the asrama side I've participated, and my vocation? With two < left hands, no brain, born as a mleccha, I've tried all kinds of things, < potwasher, book, painting, prasadam, sticker, candle, t-shirt distributor, < treasurer, pujari, cook, manager, gurukula teacher, farmer and now preacher; < I was always told to surrender and do the needful. < In the 11th canto a sudra is described as perfectly honest, clean and < satisfied with whatever he receives. I don't know if I am up to that level < yet. A somehow typical ISCKON career, in my opinion, ending with the seemingly highist goal in ones spiritual and material life, acording to what we are tought in this society, reaching the point of taking sannysa. Renouncing everything for Krishna. Now I wonder if with such a paradigm in mind, of trying to surpass the different asramas, of the varnasrama dharma system, not yet fully introduced or accepted in our society, as quickly as possible, a nice society of vaishnavas can develop and florish, socially as well as economically. And what should be the basis of such an daiva Varnasrama dharma society? Surrender and do the needful? Surrender to whom? The brahmanas, the ksatryas or to the vaisyas? Acording to what I have learned the sudras are the only one who supose to be subordinate to this other varnas. The brahmanas, the ksatriyas and the vaisyas had their indipendence as far as I understod the vedic system. But in our ISKCON society everyone has to surrender to the service he supose to do, and do the needfull in order to be accepted socially. Now I wonder if this principle which was introduced in this society has its origin and justification in the pioneering time with its pioneering spirit, or it was ment for all time under all circumstances? I mean ultimatelly we should show through our service that we are surendering to Krsna,s will which is coming to us through the GBC, spiritual master, temple president or temple comander, etc, at least I was told for many years that Krishna,s will comes down through this hierarchy, but how would one show ones surendering atitude for Krishna if the society would be organized acording to the varnasrama dharma structure of society? What whould than happen to ISKCON? What would be its function in such a society? Just some thoughts at the end of the day. yhs Harsi das
