In the dictionary there is many different meanings to the word "society" and

as long as we have not made clear among ourselves what we speak about when

we use the word "society" there will continue to be confusion on the subject

"society".

One can find for instance the following meanings:

1. an organized group of persons associated

together for religious, benevolent,

cultural, scientific, political,

patriotic, or other purposes.

2. a body of individuals living as members

of a community; community.

4. a highly structured system of human

organization for large-scale community

living that normally furnishes

protection, continuity, security, and a

national identity for its members:

American society.

6. those with whom one has companionship.

etc. etc.

Are we speaking about "an organized group of persons associated together for

religious purposes" or are we speaking about a highly structured system of

human organizatin for large-scale community living that normally furnishes

protection, continuity, security, (and maybe a national identity)"?

If we are speaking about "a group of persons for religious purposes" then we

probably have to accept to do the needful and if we are speaking about "a

highly structured system of human organization" then we probably have to

wait a while until we have got enough people in one place to be able to

fulfill all the needs of such a society.

As long as it is not clearly defined what one is speaking about then the

discussion will continue to be a discussion in confusion. Sorry to say.
