You will find that fact stated by Srila Prabhupada in the last few paragraphs of the Introduction to the gita. > Well, I am pretty sure he wasn't telling us a lie when he states this. > One can go back home back to Godhead, in love with Krsna, by simply reading the Bhagavad-gita As It Is. No further qualification was stated by the pure devotee, Srila Prabhupada. The reasoning is also given: > > "One who simply reads Bhagavad-gita need not read any other Vedic literature. Bhagavad-gita is the essence of all Vedic knowledge. ...one who studies Bhagavad-gita has no need of any other literature whatever." > I find no reason to interpret this. Admittedly, properly studying Bhagavad-gita can offer "perfection." But what kind? Liberation? manusyanam sahasresu kascid yatati siddhaye yatatam api siddhanam kascin mam vetti tattvatah "Out of thousands among men, only a few endeavor for perfection. And even out of those who are perfect, hardly one knows Me (Krsna) in truth." Besides kaivalya, of course, B.g. could grant Vaikuntha, Mathura or even Dvaraka, but NOT Goloka prema. For that we MUST go to the advanced study -- not mundane study, Janesvara -- Srimad Bhagavatam. Digest this, please: SB 1.1.2 "Completely rejecting all religious activities which are materially motivated [ie, karma-yoga, varna-dharma, etc.] this Bhagavata Purana propounds the HIGHEST truth, which is understandable by those devotees who are fully pure in heart [ie, not the "commom man"]... What is the need of any other scripture?..." Whereas various processes for gradually realizing the Absolute Truth are mentioned in B.g for different classes of human beings (such as karma, jnana, yoga, etc.) no trace of such inferior processes are recommended in Srimad Bhagavatam. Therefore it is called Amalam Puranam. It is the Vaisnava Samhita -- exclusively for devotees who want to realize the summum bonum of the highest truth -- the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Sri Krsna -- FULLY. Prabhupada goes on to write in the purport: "Srimad Bhagavatam is a personal commentary on the Vedanta-sutra by Sri Vyasadeva. It was written in the MATURITY of his spiritual life *through the mercy of Narada*.. [Vyasadeva] is the author of ALL other Vedic literatures [including B.g.], yet he recommends the study of Srimad Bhagavatam ABOVE ALL OTHERS." [emphasis mine] The common person may certainly be satisfied with Bhagavad-gita, and it is an appropriate introduction to the basic philosophy of Krsna consciousness for beginners, but I think as experienced devotees we should be hankering to relish deeply Srimad Bhagavatam. pibata bhagavatam rasam alayam muhur aho rasika bhuvi bhavukah (SB 1.1.3) To factually advance our understanding in Srimad Bhagavatam, however, we MUST hear it from a *rasika* Vaisnava, as clearly mentioned in this verse (1.1.3 purport): "This process of disciplic succession suggests that IN THE FUTURE ALSO Srimad Bhagavatam has to be understood from a PERSON who is factually a representative of Srila Sukadeva Goswami." [emphasis added for clarification] Any questions or doubts? Srila dasa PS: Isn't it ironic that you would quote verses from Srimad Bhagavatam to support your idea that B.g is all that we need to FULLY realize Krsna?
