More emphatically, it has been said, "If the men become like Rama, we [women] will become Sita." If we believe that, we might as well believe the moon is made of cheese, and that the United States sent someone there. :-) Why did Prabhupada's wife not become "Sita"? Why did she not "automatically" reciprocate and herself become a sadhu? There are other examples, like Ramanujacarya's wife--Ramanujacarya took sannyasa because of his wife's recalcitrance. The wife of Sri Tukarama was also materialistic. In the compassion and social consessions men are prepared to give women, we tend to forget that they also have free will. They aren't simply some Coca-cola machine in which you insert 50 cents and you get what you pay for. They have free will, and as such, they can also choose to do the wrong thing. Very interesting exchange my wife had with some (western) ladies (devotees) at the local temple. They were having the usual male-bashing conversation (in the temple), and then my wife asked them, "You will come to the temple, and if you are serving prasadam, you will gladly serve every single man here except your husband, who is also a devotee, why? In your own home, you will hate to cook and serve your husband who is a devotee, but you will not at all mind cooking for any other man. This is your false ego." And they had no answer.
